Practice No.001: You Should Let You Love You

You have done it in a hundred ordinary ways.

You have checked in on someone because they crossed your mind.

Made their favorite meal.

Encouraged them when they doubted themselves.

Protected time for them.

Celebrated something that mattered to them.

Forgiven a mistake.

Spoken gently when they were having a hard day.

Made sure they rested.

Looked at them and smiled simply because you were glad they were there.

Love does not only live in what we feel. We make it visible through what we do.

Today, You are going to let you, love you.

Said another way: Give yourself some of what you so naturally give to others.

It doesn’t have to be all at once. It doesn’t have to be perfect. It’s not another promise to become a better person.

Today, you are going to make some of that love visible to yourself.

The Practice

Think about someone you love.

Now forget, for a moment, how you feel about them. Think about how your love behaves.

What do you do because you love them?

How do you speak to them?

What do you notice?

What do you protect?

What do you make easier?

What do you remind them of?

What do you give without being asked?

What do you want them to remember about themselves?

Choose one. Just one.

Now turn it toward yourself.

What would it look like to love me that way today? What would it look like if I offered this same love to myself today?

Make the answer small enough to live.

If you smile when someone you love enters the room, smile when you meet yourself in the mirror.

If you remind them to eat, make yourself something nourishing.

If you tell them to rest when they're exhausted, let yourself stop.

If you celebrate their progress, acknowledge something you did well.

If you protect their feelings from unnecessary cruelty, notice the way you speak to yourself today.

If you make time for what matters to them, make a little time for something that matters to you.

This does not have to be dramatic to be real.

Choose your act, then make yourself a promise: Today, I will let me love me this way.

Now Give the Promise an Anchor

You will probably forget.

That’s part of why this is a practice. This is where knowing becomes practice.

You can decide something in the morning and lose it by noon.

Life gets loud.

You get busy.

Old patterns are familiar.

And what you meant to remember disappears underneath everything asking for your attention.

So, we give the promise somewhere to live.

Choose something you will encounter again and again today.

Your morning cup.

What you put on your body.

Something beside your bed.

Something on your desk.

Something you will touch without having to remember to remember.

Let it become your Anchor.

Every time it finds your eyes, remember the promise you made.

When you see it, don't ask it to motivate you. Let it remind you.

You should let you love you.

Then return to the act you chose.

You didn’t fail when you forgot, if you forgot.

Returning Is the practice.

See the Anchor. Remember the promise. Love yourself that way.

This Is Why Release No.001 Exists

Release No.001 was created around this practice.

These pieces are not declarations that you have mastered loving yourself.

They are not rewards for becoming someone different.

They are Anchors.

Physical reminders placed inside the life you are already living.

The mug meets you in an ordinary ritual.

Morning coffee.

Tea at your desk.

Water beside you while you work.

You reach for it, and there are the words: You Should Let You Love You.

The Piece does not do the practice for you.

It brings you back to it.

That is its purpose.

Before the Day Ends

Notice what happened.

Did offering yourself the same consideration you give someone else feel natural?

Uncomfortable?

Easy to forget?

Surprisingly emotional?

Did you resist it?

Did you minimize it?

Did you catch yourself believing that love was reasonable for someone else but excessive when offered to you?

Notice what the practice showed you. You do not have to fix what you notice.

That is information.

Maybe loving yourself felt natural.

Maybe it felt uncomfortable.

Maybe you kept forgetting.

Maybe you discovered that something you give freely to everyone else feels strangely difficult to give yourself.

Maybe you noticed how quickly you negotiate yourself out of your own care.

Don't rush to fix what you find. Just notice it.

Because now you can see it. And what you can see, you can practice differently.

Tomorrow, return again.

The Remembrance

I love me.
I love loving on me.

You already knew how to love.

The practice was never learning how.

It was remembering that you are someone your love is allowed to reach.

Knowing is not the same as living. The work is closing the distance.
